During the past weekend, the thai society held this thai festival called Loy Krathong. This is festival is a time where Thai people pay respect to the Goddess of Water. ‘Loy’ means floats and ’Krathong’ means a raft. The Krathong is made out of banana tree trunk and is then decorated with delicately folded banana leaves and colourful flowers. Here are some examples of the traditional Krathong. Krathong

But since we do not have any of the traditionally used materials therefore we came up with the idea of making Krathong out of colourful papers instead. The Thai society took this opportunity to teach other non-thai member to make one as well and turned it into a little competition. Guess what? My group won!!!! Here is a picture of what we ended up with. :) My group was extremely creative.

3rd seminar

I think every single one of us have all the intelligence that Gardner mentioned. It’s just a matter of how much we have developed since we were born. For example, music intelligence is probably in everyone of us but some individual did not have the opportunity to even experiement with music therefore think they do not have any music intelligence. Sometimes you also need to practise and go in depth of each field in order to decide how much of this intelligence you have. I also believe in hardwork and going after what you want to achieve. I think the more you want it (whatever it is), the more motivation you will have and will find all the possible solutions to get it which in a way is creativity, isn’t it?

I really enjoyed the exercise of expressing the two different sides of ourself. This exercise has allow me to know more abotu myself and ask myself questions that I have never even considered before. I did the ‘responsible me’ and  the ‘silly me’. A lot of questions popped up while I was decorating the ‘responsible me’ side. Questions such as ‘ Is this making me happy or them happy?’ , ‘ Do they even know what I had to go through when I was doing this’, etc. But when I was doing the ‘silly me’ part, most of the time it’s a fun memories but I realise that it is like a secret that I keep to myself because not many people know about it, not even my family. This exercise also has helped me to let go of some of the stuff that I have in my brain. It is similar to the free writting exercise which really helps when you want to let go of some of the stuff inside  you.

I was looking into the chracteristoc of creative people and found few blogs/ websites. The 9 Attitudes of Highly Creative People talked about what kind of characteristic you need to have to be more creative. I really do agree with the blogger that curiosity can make you more creative. I, myself, learn a lot from observation at how people does things and the way they think which then makes me want to experiment.

There is another website on How you can be more creative today which also looks at the characteristic that someone need to become more creative. Most of the tips are manageable but some of them will take some tines to develop. Becasue us, as a human being, are really attached to our old habits and will take times to get used to the new things. One thing that just popped into my head when I was reading the article is that a lot of these advice requires a lot of courage.

I also found this article which is about the link between creativity and modd disorder. I was a bit disappointed because there connection is quite loose. But it was quite interesting when they talked about how some creativity people have a deep sentivity and so could lead to worry too mcuh abotu their surroundings.

So have a look and tell me what you think. :)

2nd seminar

The 2nd seminar was really interesting. I really liked the self hypnosis exercise. It would reccommend it to anybody. It really can make you feel more relax. Well, it did to me anyway. Initially, I felt that most of my body parts are really heavy, especially my head. Could it be that it is the part that keeps of the stress level? Anyway, after a while i just felt so light that I didn’t even realise that my hands were sitting on my lap. This exercise would be so much better if we got sofa because we will be able to relax our whole body fully. Because my head was so heavy, I wanted to just drop my head but the conscious part of my brain kept telling me to keep it up. So if we got sofa that would have made this exercise so much better. Another factor that we can’t forget is the voice of the instuction- which was Sophie’s- the tone of her voice was just so soft and light which makes you feel even more relax.

I found this website about hypnosis- it gives you more knowledge of how it works.

It was really interesting yesterday, in my first seminar ever.

I think everybody is creativity in some ways. It doesn’t mean that that person has to be gifted in one of the ‘Arts’, but it could be that the person is living their lives creatively. Reflecting back on the class today, I feel that the environment has a big factor on our ability to use our creativity. As I am totally new to this country, I faced a lot of challenge each day and is under stress. When one is under stress, creativity just doesn’t comeas your mood will be very depressing. And that was how I felt before the seminar started. However, after the class starts with friendly interactions and relaxing music (something that one can enjoy), my mood started to change. Yet, I must admit that I went back into the depressing mood when we were told to write for 10 minutes without any filtering from our head. My head just went straight to my house, parents and friends. I suppose creativity, sometimes, requires a lot of attention. As my mind was so concentrated on Thailand, there just weren’t any creativity in my writing.

Background

Just to give you a bit of background about me.

My name is Chutima Tan. I am from Thailand (sorry if my English is bad). I am currently studying Economics but decided to choose developing creativity as my elective. The reason being is I took Art as one of my IGCSE course when I was at my international school and got an A*. Therefore, I consider myself as quite a creative person. However, I didn’t continue taking Art in IB due to I, personally, feel like I should be concentrating more on the academic side. But my Art teacher totally disagree with me. He even said to me, ‘ It will be such a waste for you to throw it all away’. No matter how many times he tried to convince me, I did not listen. And this is exactly why I am taking this module. I feel like I have not had the chance to be very creative during the years of IB (although there are extra-activities that I took), therefore I am really interested in seeing how I, myself, will develop my own creativity and to use it to help the other children back in the Thai school that I help out with.
